Why we celebrate HHAW

Hip Hop Appreciation Week this year will be a time when The Temple of Hip Hop calls on those of us who have lead Hip Hop influenced lifestyles to recognize who we are. We want to draw your attention back to the fact that when things looked bleak for the urban community in the 1970’s we created Hip Hop Kulture! When people questioned the purpose or legitimacy of the culture Hip Hop reacted by becoming a worldwide phenomenon. When people still questioned it’s worth and influence, Hip Hop became a multi-billion dollar collection of industries including music, fashion, movies, and inspired revolutions, language and thought around the World. Hip Hop Kulture changed the destiny of thousands of people who otherwise would have had no way out of poverty. Hiphop consciousness has saved still more people from psychological depression and lack of motivation. This is why we celebrate Hip Hop Kulture every third week in May.
