  1. Adele Roach says:

where the breaks of funk songs—the part most suited to dance, usually percussion-based—were isolated and repeated for the purpose of all-night dance parties. This form of music playback, using hard funk and rock, formed the basis of hip hop music. Campbell’s announcements and exhortations to dancers would lead to the syncopated, rhymed spoken accompaniment now known as rapping. He dubbed his dancers break-boys and break-girls, or simply b-boys and b-girls. According to Herc, “breaking” was also street slang for “getting excited” and “acting energetically”.

  2. Because most of the file sharing sites i used are down, i can’t claim anymore that this blog contains the biggest collection of old school live and radio hip hop tapes on the web. And it would take to much time to rebuild it.However, to share some hip hop history to new visitors and keep the old school vibe alive i will upload 10 of my favorite tapes in the next weeks. The first one is pre 1980 and contains several classic old school elements like the nursery rhymes, the funk breaks and the usage of the echo chaimber. But what makes the tape extra special to me is the energy of the rappers and the creativity of the dj. Mr. Bond, Mr. Hyde, Starchild and Ronnie Green (a.k.a. Captain Rock) are performing at their best. And how about using Country & Western: Black Grass – Bad Bascomb (Everybody got to get some)? For those who think that Run DMC was innovative using aerosmith’s ‘walk this way’: check the tape after 14.30 minutes (part 1) and 6 minutes (part 2).This is raw New York hip hop, right at your face.Yes Yes Ya’ll, To The Beat Ya’ll and You Don’t Stop. The sound quality isn’t to good but it brings some extra authenticity to it :-)Part 1: http://www.mediafire.com/?onz51vbprssr1ik Part 2: http://www.mediafire.com/?j9f9x32sj96nix9 would love to hear some opinions about this tape!

I not good with downloading anything from the web like that. Try putting it in another auto play format, like soundcloud or reverbnation.

  3. There are a lot of jazz dancers out there doing pseudo hip hop. A lot of teachers don’t know the history, they’re just teaching the steps. They’re learning from videos, but they don’t know the culture. If all you see is Britney Spears, you think that’s hip hop, but that’s never been hip hop. It’s completely watered down. And studios could [sic] care less, because hip hop is one of their biggest moneymakers.

  4. iHipHop is a technologically advanced social network catered to the hip hop community. We offer music, videos, new mixtapes, news, and a number of networking features. We are committed to bringing hip hop fans together to engage and share videos and music with one another.
