With a little insight and knowledge one can see parallels in the state of American politics and Hip Hop music (hip-hop music). What has become popular and mainstreamed is a dumbed-down, pre-school level of intelligence and discourse. The traditionally accepted qualifications for excellence in either category, has been shitted on by upstarts who have shown no understanding or ability to perform on a tested level. Instead, the new school or ‘insurgents’, as they’re called in politics make things up as they go along. They dazzle the media with their childish antics and baffle the so-called ‘gatekeepers’ with bullshit. And therein lies the problem; those so-called gatekeepers in the media.
As I’ve said before, there have always been whack emcees and unqualified candidates, but today, the media props up these buffoons as if they’re unique or special or deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as someone who is actually qualified. The internet reality of overnight fame and huge monetary windfalls gained ‘on accident’; have rendered the media into suckers looking for the next double rainbow, or “Oh Lord, it’s a fire!” cute little trend. Behind every unworthy attention grabbing situation, is some media person looking for a pot of gold. Whether it’s a deejay or a news anchor, they all want ratings or exposure that turns into more money and influence for them. The desire for money is not new, it’s the lowering of the bar that is. Not since the days of the Wild West, snake-oil salesman and P.T. Barnum’s of the World, has there been such a time when a person could get so rich off of so little effort.
In politics and popular rap music, the media suckers have been lowering the bar to accommodate any and every participant of lesser skill. Then, what adds insult to injury is the comparison of unqualified clowns to tested veterans who have already proved their competence by normal measures. It’s what has come to be called the “false equivalence” phenomenon in political news. Fake journalists who are either too ignorant or too complacent in accepting bullshit disguised as real, pretend that, because of “popularity” or because “people are talking about it”, all things are equal. They may be ignorant because like the frauds they cover, they too may be unqualified to do their job correctly. Many are inexperienced, uneducated and uninformed about their own craft. They have no ability to tell a fake from someone real. They don’t understand the qualities it takes to be considered a legitimate talent in the field they’re discussing. It’s like having a person who doesn’t like sports commentate and decide which players to talk to, based on the color of their uniform.
For the other ones who do know better and still perpetuate whackness, slackness or stupidity to the masses anyway, they have a special place in history, under the topic ‘pieces of shit.’ They have contributed consciously to the mental enslavement of unwitting victims that take in their products. People have become dumber not because Trap music exists, but because low-life, greed-based people and willfully ignorant gatekeepers promote that dumb shit on a regular basis so that you are forced to hear it. Trap music is cynically patterned off the idea that some people live in a “trap” and then sing and dance in its name. How disrespectful and grimy is it to glorify living in a trap as a free descendant of enslaved ancestry? Similarly what kind of mature, rational individual actively seeks to undermine the social constructs used to keep savage-minded gun owners from taking the law into their own hands? It wasn’t enough to lower the bar for the safety of the public from police brutality, but now the media lowers the bar of what’s acceptable behavior for a Presidential candidate, the highest single authority in the land. Ruining hip-hop music is one thing, but to seek out self-destruction on a societal basis is cynical beyond any type of reason.
If you think I’m being too alarmist, just consider the low-life state of both rap music and Presidential politics. In rap, so-called ‘mumble rappers’ use rap songs to not say anything intelligent or meaningful. Some dress in women’s clothes for popularity and talk mainly about sex, drugs and money in every verse of their nursery rhymes aimed at juvenile minds. They glorify ignorance and implicate themselves in crimes that they sometimes have to answer for in a court of law.
Meanwhile, in politics, Donald Trump has broken every protocol and offended every group normally counted on to get elected, but his questionable rhetoric, tactics and numerous mistakes, haven’t yet disqualified him. Instead, the media tries to present the narrative of a close race by allowing and promoting known liars and Trump shills to counter arguments based on facts from the other side. Virtually every off-color remark made by a Trump shill has occurred on CNN, not Fox or MSNBC. The list of known liars on the CNN payroll is long and contains people like accused batterer and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who is still being paid by Trump as he collects $500,000 from CNN. This is the same CNN whose lead anchor, and Vanderbilt heir, Anderson Cooper, was once an intern for the CIA.
Yes, the state of popular hip-hop music or rap and the state of Presidential politics, has been dragged through the gutter not just by unqualified insurgents, but willfully ignorant/ compromised turncoats, who betray everyone else for their own personal gain. In the end, it’s not the dumbfucks like Chief Keef or Donald Trump that make the World a shittier place. It’s the people who promote them as if they’re legitimate representatives. They are really to blame. If we want to change things, we have to start by looking at them and questioning their qualifications for being where they are. Most of them don’t deserve to have the positions they do.
Should we really be subjected to their selfish manipulation of society even after we turn the media off? Outside of our personal circles, the masses of unwitting viewers/listeners are being misguided and fed a diet of ignorant statements that they can’t help but repeat after hearing them all of the time. They/we are being lied to, scammed, hypnotized, bamboozled, and led astray. We have to decide if we will let the influencers convince us to follow dummies, or will we turn away.
For all of the time that certain news anchors have been on the air presenting news, have they gotten any more intelligent? Are their questions more in depth because of years’ worth of experience and intuition? The answer is no. They still read the 8th grade level scandal-filled questions scripted by the writers of the show. They just add the breathless emotion and fake-passionate interruptions to get at so-called balance and neutrality. Likewise, in hip-hop music, the deejays that spin Trap without having ever tried to preserve the rich culture and heritage of the hip-hop music that paved the way for it to exist, are also guilty of dumbing down the masses. Therein lies the definition of the problem; willfully ignorant media personalities constantly feeding the masses bullshit which some unwittingly consume not caring if it will harm them.
