Celebrating the Worldwide Cypher

In common usage, a cypher is equated with a rhyme session of emcees. The word stems from the term for a ‘building session’ amongst 5 percenters who would gather in a small circle and speak or “build” on certain topics of the day. The Worldwide Cypher I’m speaking of is more close to the latter. From around 2006 – 2011, I experimented with some streaming technology that allowed me to connect on real-time with like-minded Hiphoppas from around the Earth to discuss anything relevant to our existence. On the ‘show’ we discussed metaphysics, politics, culture, religion, society, and of course music through a Hiphop philosophy. The people I came in contact with digitally were from across North America, Europe, India, South America and Africa. Together, we shared some deep discussions as well as our love for Hip Hop Kulture. The following video shows some of the people I met on-line and some who I came in contact with in-person. Collectively, we referred to ourselves as the Worldwide Cypher…

Kurt Nice aka Kurtiss Jackson is a behind the scenes pioneer in the Hip Hop Kulture, creating the first nationally distributed video mix tape series, Shades of Hip Hop, in the late 1990s.
